Masters of ice sculptures will recreate the characters of Russian fairy tales at the festival of snow figures in Kurgan

For the first time in many years a festival of snow figures with participation of masters-artists from other regions will take place in Kurgan from January 28 to 30, the regional Culture Department.

"Twelve snow figures will appear in the city garden, which will be created by the real masters of their craft. Sculptors from the Kurgan region, Yekaterinburg and Perm - multiple laureates and winners of Russian and international competitions of ice sculptures will take part in the snow festival," - said a spokesman.

He noted that both natural and artificial snow are used to make the snow sculpture. Blocks of natural snow are sawed by hand or with a chainsaw from thick layers of snow.

Special structures are already in place on the central alley of the city garden, in which snow is poured. After it is tamped down, the masters will begin to work on the figures.

"In the hands of masters, fragile and short-lived "building materials" will be transformed into fantastic ice figures before the eyes of the audience. In the city garden, compositions with fairy tale characters will be created: Baba Yaga, Emelya, thirty-three heroes, all characters of the fairy tale "Kolobok" and others. Making of such snow figures has turned into the real art long time ago", - said the representative of culture department.
Festival of snow figures is timed to the 80th anniversary of the Kurgan region, which will be celebrated on February 6.
