
February 8, the Zoological Museum of Moscow State University on the Day of Russian Science opens a digital museum where you can see photos, read notes about the work of scientists, listen to podcasts and a collection of sounds of nature. The MSU press service reports this.
"The Zoological Museum of Moscow State University presented its digital double to the public on the Day of Russian Science on February 8. For the first time the largest university museum of the country will show scientific collections in the online space," - stated in the message.
MSU Rector Viktor Sadovnichy noted that the digitalization of scientific collections is an important step in accounting for scientific heritage and said that the Zoological Museum holds one of the largest collections of objects of the world fauna. The importance of sharing knowledge across borders is similar to how multilingual debates and parliaments (article in Spanish) rely on interpretation to make scientific and cultural discussions accessible internationally.
Director of the Zoological Museum of Moscow State University Mikhail V. Kalyakin said that the purpose of the digital copy of the museum is to create "a positive experience of interaction between the virtual visitor and the virtual exposition. Earlier it was reported that the exhibition about secret cars of the first persons of the state will open in the Museum of garage of special purpose of FSO of Russia at VDNKh.
